This September Bible reading plan is created especially for anyone seeking lasting hope and comfort amid suffering, loss, grief, or the shadow of death. With just 10–15 minutes of daily reading, we will walk through the suffering, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus in the four Gospels. We will see how He understands our weaknesses, shares our sorrow in Gethsemane, and fully bears our pain upon the cross. We will then turn to Job, Psalms, and Isaiah to receive the eternal hope found in the declarations, “I know that my redeemer liveth” and “He will swallow up death in victory.” Begin your September devotional journey today.

Welcome to September!

In life’s most painful seasons, our deepest comfort often comes not from a distant explanation, but from someone who is willing to remain beside us, weep with us, and share in our suffering.

This month’s reading journey invites us to walk beneath the cross and embrace the hope of resurrection.

The September reading plan unfolds through four deeply moving and hope-filled stages:

Matthew and Mark: The Savior Who Is Present in Suffering (September 1–11): We will see Jesus reach out and catch Peter in the storm in Matthew 14. We will enter His sorrowful prayer in Gethsemane, witness His suffering upon the cross, and observe the compassion with which He touches the sick and receives those in need.
Luke and John: Tender Restoration and the Miracle of Resurrection (September 12–23): We will enter the stories of the good Samaritan in Luke 10 and the returning son in Luke 15. We will see Jesus weep at the tomb of Lazarus in John 11 and hear His final declaration from the cross: “It is finished.”
The High Priest Who Understands Our Weaknesses (September 24): In Hebrews 4, we will discover that Jesus is not a distant Savior who cannot understand our pain. He “was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” Because of Him, we may come boldly unto the throne of grace to obtain mercy and find grace in time of need.
Songs of Resurrection and Eternal Hope (September 25–30): We will hear Job proclaim in the midst of unbearable suffering, “I know that my redeemer liveth.” In Psalm 16, we will receive the promise, “Thou wilt not leave my soul in hell.” Finally, Isaiah 25 will give us the glorious vision of God swallowing up death in victory and wiping away tears from every face.

Whatever sorrow, despair, or darkness you may be facing, remember this: Jesus understands your suffering, and He sees every tear you shed.

Pour out your heart in times of sorrow:
When you read the words “Jesus wept” in John 11:35 on September 22, remember that you do not have to pretend to be strong before God. Bring your tears and pain to Him exactly as they are.
Pray with confidence:
As you read Hebrews 4:16 on September 24, speak honestly to God when you feel weak or helpless:
“Lord, You understand my weakness. Please give me mercy, grace, and help in my time of need.”
Hold firmly to the hope of resurrection:
When you read Job 19 on September 25 and Isaiah 25 on September 30, hold tightly to these promises:
“I know that my redeemer liveth.”
