I am Dandelion, your Bible reading companion. I am so glad to gather with you once again in the gentle stillness of God’s Word, receiving the strength and hope that comes from above.

As the year draws to its close and December winds down, looking back over the journey of this past year, we may have experienced moments of joy, but also seasons of lowliness and struggle—perhaps fruitfulness in ministry felt slow, personal challenges remained unresolved, or our hearts simply felt depleted and faint. In low seasons, we often ask ourselves: Does my small effort still matter? Does God still see someone as faint as me?

Today, we will read Psalm 138, a powerful song of praise and confident declaration that David offered to God in the midst of trial and trouble.

David reminds us that though our God is exalted on high, He deeply cares for the lowly. He does not turn away from us because of our weakness or humble status. On the contrary, as we continue to follow and serve Him through low seasons, His hand reaches down to support us. God will never abandon the good work He has begun in our lives.

As you read Psalm 138 today, I invite you to keep these two perspectives in mind:

1. The Exalted Lord's Regard for the Lowly: Notice in verse 6 how God regards the "lowly" compared to the "proud." How is His loving gaze fixed upon those who humbly seek Him?

2. Perfection and Assurance in Trouble: What confidence does David express in verses 7–8 while still walking in the midst of trouble? How does the promise that God will "perfect that which concerneth me" bring peace to your soul?

Let us quiet our hearts together and step into this space of strength and promises.

📖 Light Context: Gratitude and Confidence in the Valley 

Psalm 138 is a psalm of thanksgiving written by David, born out of deep personal experience.

David’s life was marked by frequent trials, from fleeing Saul in the desert to enduring internal and external crises as king; he knew well what it felt like to walk through low seasons. In this psalm, we see two striking truths:

• The Highest Meets the Lowest: Verse 6 notes, "Though the Lord be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly." In ancient Near Eastern cultures, deities were believed to care only for kings and nobility. Yet David reveals a very different God—the Sovereign Creator who willingly stoops down to care for the humble and wounded in spirit.

• A Promise From Now to the End: Verses 7–8 reflect that David was still walking "in the midst of trouble." The hardship had not completely vanished. Yet he praised God whole-heartedly because he knew God's mercy endures forever. Whatever good purpose God initiates in a person's life, He faithfully carries through to completion.

This context reassures us: even if our current circumstances feel low or unfinished, we can continue following and serving Him in faith. It is not our strength that completes the journey, but God’s unfailing faithfulness.

Today’s Reflection: Light & Response 

1. Light 💡

What touches our hearts most in Psalm 138 is God’s constant ownership and tender care over our lives.

• His Eye on the Lowly: God never measures you by status or human grandness; He looks for a heart that humbly relies on Him. When you feel small, overlooked, or in a valley, that is precisely when God’s loving gaze rests most tenderly upon you.

• He Will Perfect It All: We often feel anxious because of our human limitations, fearing we might fail or fall short. But today's verse gently reminds us: it is the Lord who perfects what concerns us. Your role is to trust and follow; His promise is to see it through to the end. What His hand begins, His faithfulness will preserve.

2. Stillness & Reflection 💭

Today, let God's Word gently prompt your heart:

• Is there an area in my life or ministry right now that feels like a "low season" or a place of struggle, causing me to feel discouraged?

• As I remember that "the Lord will perfect that which concerneth me," am I willing to place my anxieties back into His capable and loving hands?

3. Gentle Practice 🍃

• An Act of Surrender: Take a quiet moment today. Write down on a piece of paper the burden that weighs most heavily on you, or hold your hand in a tight fist to represent that worry. Then slowly open your hand, praying quietly: "Lord, this situation concerns me, but I believe You will perfect it. I choose to release it into Your hands."

• Carrying a Promise: Keep verse 8 in mind (“The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O Lord, endureth for ever”). Whenever you feel faint or anxious today, gently repeat this promise to remind yourself that God’s mercy endures forever, and He will never leave you unfinished.
