As a new year begins, you may be stepping across the threshold carrying weariness, sickness, unspoken tears, or deep loneliness. Please know that wherever you find yourself, you are not walking this road alone.

This month, God’s Word wraps around us with two deeply comforting themes:

• Comfort in Sorrow (1/1 – 1/28): Journey through the honest laments of the Psalms, Lamentations, Matthew, and 2 Corinthians. Learn to bring your "how long?" questions and darkest prayers directly to God. Rest in the assurance that the Lord is near to the brokenhearted, remembers every tear, and binds up every wound.

• God’s Presence in Loneliness (1/29 – 1/31): Step into Genesis to witness Hagar in the wilderness and Jacob on his lonely road. Discover that God hears the cry of the cast out and meets us in our most isolated moments.

Key Themes for the Month:

• Your Tears and Darkest Prayers Belong Before God: You never have to hide your pain. The darkest prayers, physical sickness, and crying out in deep waters are all welcomed by the Father (Psalm 6, Psalm 88).

• Blessed Are Those Who Mourn: Jesus promises that those who grieve will be comforted. As God heals your broken heart, He transforms your experience so you can comfort others in their sorrow (Matthew 5, 2 Corinthians 1).

• The God Who Sees You in Loneliness: When you feel abandoned or forced into a wilderness, God hears your voice and meets you on the lonely road (Genesis 16, Genesis 28).
