I am Dandelion, your Bible reading companion. I am so glad to gather with you once again in this quiet moment within Godās Word, seeking inner stillness and firm assurance together.
As April begins, daily life may be bringing new changes or transitionsāperhaps an unfamiliar challenge, a new responsibility, or a step into uncharted territory that must be taken alone. Whenever we face the unknown, our inner defense mechanisms often trigger subtle anxiety and fear: "Will I really be able to handle this?" "What if things don't go well?" These quiet thoughts can easily erode our peace.
Today, we will read Joshua Chapter 1, a timeless passage on "how to find courage in fear when stepping into the unknown."
After Moses passed away, the young leader Joshua inherited the formidable responsibility of leading millions into the unfamiliar land of Canaan. Facing giants ahead and uncertainties all around, Joshua's heart was undoubtedly filled with immense pressure and unrest. Yet, God did not scold him for feeling afraid. Instead, He gently called out to him three times: "Be strong and of a good courage!" What God offered Joshua was not a complex, tactical plan, but a steadfast promise: "As I was with Moses, so I will be with thee."
As you read Joshua Chapter 1 today, I invite you to keep these two perspectives in mind:
The Focus of Godās Promise: Notice that God did not promise a path completely free of storms. What did He promise instead? How does His pledgeā"I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee"ācalm Joshua's inner fears?
Anchored in the Word: Verse 8 speaks of meditating on Godās law day and night. How does God's Word become our anchor amidst changing surroundings, bringing true stability?
Let us quiet our hearts together and listen to our faithful Godās gentle encouragement.

Joshua Chapter 1 takes place at the conclusion of Israelās forty years of wandering in the wilderness, right at the turning point where they prepared to cross the Jordan River and enter the Promised Land.
Their legendary leader Moses had just died, leaving the nation in a vulnerable state of transition and uncertainty. Taking over as the new leader, Joshua faced a daunting assignment: an unfamiliar land ahead defended by fortified cities with giant inhabitants. Joshua was acutely aware of his own limitations, and the weight on his shoulders was immense.
At this critical juncture, God spoke directly to Joshua, offering three gentle yet firm reminders:
True Courage is Rooted in "Presence": Three times God instructed Joshua to "be strong and of a good courage" (verses 6, 7, 9). This strength was not derived from Joshuaās own personality or self-confidence, but was built entirely upon Godās promise: "I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee" (verse 5).
Godās Word as the Source of Strength: God reminded Joshua to keep his focus on His Word, meditating on it "day and night" (verse 8). When we shift our eyes from immediate obstacles to Godās unchanging promises, fear naturally subsides.
This context reassures us: feeling afraid before the unknown is a natural human reaction, but we do not need to wait until we feel "completely fearless" or "perfectly prepared" to move forward. God assures us that wherever we go, His presence goes with us.

1 Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord it came to pass, that the Lord spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying,
2 Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.
3 Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.
4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.
5 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
6 Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.
7 Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper withersoever thou goest.
8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
10 Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,
11 Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the Lord your God giveth you to possess it.
12 And to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to half the tribe of Manasseh, spake Joshua, saying,
13 Remember the word which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, The Lord your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land.
14 Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side Jordan; but ye shall pass before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valour, and help them;
15 Until the Lord have given your brethren rest, as he hath given you, and they also have possessed the land which the Lord your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the Lord's servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising.
16 And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou commandest us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go.
17 According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only the Lord thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses.
18 Whosoever he be that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage.

What comforts our hearts most in Joshua Chapter 1 is Godās deep compassion for our human frailty and His never-failing presence.
Fear is Understood, but Presence is Real: God repeatedly says "be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed" because He knows how fragile and limited we are. He does not demand that we become instantly fearless; He simply reminds us gently that no matter how vast the unknown ahead may seem, it is never greater than His presence.
Whithersoever Thou Goest: The promise in verse 9 is not restricted to a single safe location, but extends to "whithersoever thou goest." This means even when you step into completely unfamiliar territory or face unprecedented challenges, God's love and care are already there waiting for you.
2. Stillness & Reflection š
Today, let God's Word gently prompt your heart:
In my current life or work, is there an "unknown situation" that is causing me subtle anxiety or fear?
Hearing God say to me, "The LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest," am I willing to surrender my uncertainties about the future into His hands?
3. Gentle Practice š
An Act of Trusting Surrender: Sometime today, join your hands and slowly open them while taking a deep breath. Quietly say to God: "Lord, facing this unknown matter, I feel my limitations, but I believe You are with me wherever I go."
Carrying a Promise: Save verse 9 ("Be strong and of a good courage... for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest") in your phone's notes. Whenever anxiety or tension creeps in today, repeat it silently to feel the unshakeable peace from above.

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for speaking to my heart through Joshua Chapter 1 today. Thank You for always being so compassionate toward my limitations, knowing the anxiety and fear I feel when facing uncertainties.
Lord, when I feel overwhelmed by new changes, let me hear Your gentle voice. Remind me not to look at the storms ahead, but to hold fast to Your promise. Thank You for promising that wherever I go, You will be with me, never failing me nor forsaking me.
May Your presence dissolve all anxiety in my heart, granting me rest and a strong, courageous spirit for today.
In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
